The Buffalo Jaycees have a long and distinguished history of contributing to our community. Here are just a few of our accomplishments:

  • Founded in 1932 by 143 men at the Buffalo Club and is one of the oldest professional organizations in Western New York.
  • Raised $3000 on Ed Wynn's radio broadcast for the mayor's committee on unemployment.
  • Organized the collection of to $3,500,000 in back taxes owed to the city of Buffalo.
  • Secured a master street plan which eliminated the duplication of city street plans 1949.
  • Officially opened Civic Stadium (later the name was changed to War Memorial Stadium) with a capacity crowd for a game between Colgate and Tulane.
  • Co-sponsored the first exhibition games of the American Football League (1961)
  • Spearheaded efforts to construct a new stadium by sponsoring feasibility study which outlined the need for a new stadium in 1961.
  • Participated in fundraising for March of Dimes, Easter Seals, Roswell park, Shea's Theatre, City Mission Society, the Buffalo Philharmonic, American Diabetes Association, Juvenile Diabetes Association, Association for the Blind and Handicapped, and many others.
  • Sponsored a referendum to fight the Common Council's pay raise. Negotiated a settlement with the legislators in 1970.
  • Held a Christmas party at the Convention Center for 4000 participants and raised substantial contributions for the Variety Club and Children's Hospital.
  • Played a significant role in the World University Games (July 8-18, 1993) by raising over $40,000. This amount made the Buffalo Jaycees the largest civic patron of the games.
  • Outstanding Metropolitan Chapter in the Northeastern United States for 1991-1992.
